The Philippines has the potential to become competitive in manufacturing halal-certified personal care products, the Board of Investments (BoI) said, citing the $2.6-trillion global halal economy as a major opportunity for local manufacturers. In a statement reported by BusinessWorld, the BoI highlighted that the halal market extends beyond food to include cosmetics, personal care, and pharmaceuticals.
The agency noted that the growing demand for halal-certified products worldwide presents a strategic entry point for Philippine firms, especially in the personal care and pharmaceutical sectors. The BoI encouraged local companies to pursue halal certification to tap into Muslim-majority markets and global supply chains.
Rose Marie O. Mendoza, BoI acting director of the Manufacturing Industry Department, said the Philippines has the raw materials and manufacturing capability to produce halal-certified personal care products. She stressed that the government is committed to supporting the industry through investment promotion and capacity-building programs.
