Business and civic groups on Tuesday urged lawmakers to scrap a proposed anti-political dynasty measure, arguing that the bill would entrench rather than curb the influence of political families, according to a report by BusinessWorld.

In a joint statement, the Justice Reform Initiative, Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, Makati Business Club, Management Association of the Philippines, and Parish Pastoral Council for said the current bill could inadvertently strengthen political dynasties by limiting the number of candidates from a family, thereby concentrating power among a few. The groups claimed that the measure, as drafted, would allow dynasties to operate with less accountability.

The coalition instead proposed alternative reforms, including campaign finance transparency and stricter term limits, as more effective ways to address political inequality. The lawmakers have yet to comment on the opposition.
