The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) will sign a memorandum of agreement aimed at assisting urban poor communities through livelihood opportunities within the fiber industry, according to a report by BusinessWorld.

The proposed agreement will involve equipping beneficiaries with skills and resources to participate in the fiber industry, which includes the production and processing of natural fibers such as abaca, pineapple, and coconut. PCUP and PhilFIDA said the initiative is part of broader efforts to provide sustainable livelihoods for urban poor families.

The signing is expected to take place soon, with details on implementation and beneficiary selection to be announced after the agreement is finalized. Both agencies expressed optimism that the partnership will create income-generating opportunities and improve the quality of life for urban poor communities.
