THE Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) will reduce the airline passenger fuel surcharge to Level 8 for the July 16-31 period from Level 9 in the first half of the month, marking the sixth consecutive reduction under its revised 15-day review cycle. In an advisory issued on Monday, the CAB said airlines may impose a fuel surcharge at Level 8, which corresponds to a maximum of P185 for domestic flights and P610 for international flights, according to BusinessWorld.
The latest reduction reflects continued moderation in jet fuel prices, which have eased over the past several months. CAB adjusts surcharge levels every 15 days based on average fuel prices in the preceding period, with Level 8 representing a moderate decline from the prior Level 9. Airlines are authorized to collect the surcharge upon ticket issuance, but the amount may vary depending on the carrier and route.
The consecutive reductions since March have provided some relief to passengers, though fuel surcharges remain elevated compared to pre-pandemic levels. The CAB continues to monitor global oil price trends and may adjust further in subsequent periods.
