Competition probe looming for highland vegetable trade

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) office discussed competition issues in the highland vegetable trade, particularly carrots and cabbage, according to a report by BusinessWorld.

In its market study on highland vegetables, the PCC found that farmers face production and profitability constraints, as well as imbalances in market power and bargaining positions. These issues have prompted the competition body to consider a formal probe into the sector.

The discussions between the PCC and DA-CAR aim to address these structural challenges, with the goal of improving market access and ensuring fairer returns for vegetable farmers in the Cordillera region.
