According to a report by Philstar Biz, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has warned that 88% of airports in Asia-Pacific could face congestion by 2040 unless new gateways are built soon.

The projection underscores the rapid growth in air travel demand across the region, outpacing airport infrastructure development. IATA called for early decisions on site selection and construction to avoid bottlenecks that could hamper economic growth and connectivity.

The warning highlights the need for coordinated planning among governments, airlines, and airport operators. Without timely action, passengers and cargo logistics could face significant delays, impacting tourism and trade across the Asia-Pacific region.
