The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has confiscated about P7.2 billion worth of illicit tobacco and e-cigarette products since January, according to a report by Philstar Biz. The seizures highlight the agency's intensified operations against smuggling and illegal trade.

The illicit haul includes counterfeit cigarettes, vape products, and other tobacco alternatives that evade excise taxes. BOC officials attributed the success to improved intelligence sharing and inter-agency coordination with law enforcement units.

The government has been ramping up efforts to curb illegal tobacco trade, which not only deprives the state of billions in revenue but also poses health and safety risks. The BOC vowed to sustain operations and strengthen border controls to prevent further inflows.
