The Philippine economy climbed four places to rank 47th out of 70 economies in the 2026 edition of the International Institute for Management Development's (IMD) World Competitiveness Ranking, according to a report by Philstar Biz.
Despite the improvement from last year's 51st position, the Philippines remained among the weaker performers in the Asia-Pacific region. The ranking evaluates economies based on economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure.
The IMD report noted that the country's gain was driven by slight improvements in economic performance and business efficiency indicators. However, persistent challenges in infrastructure and government efficiency continue to hold back a more significant leap in competitiveness.
