The Philippines does not import ube or purple yam, a unit of the Department of Agriculture (DA) said, amid rising popularity for the country's root crop. Philstar Biz reported the statement.

The clarification comes as ube gains traction in international markets, often featured in desserts and food products. The DA emphasized that all ube sold locally is locally grown, supporting domestic farmers.

The announcement aims to reassure consumers and stakeholders of the authenticity of Philippine ube, which remains a key agricultural product with growing global demand.
