A new report by cybersecurity firm S-RM and strategic communications consultancy FGS Global, as cited by TechPinas , reveals that ransomware attacks across Asia-Pacific surged by 59% in 2025 compared to the previous year, with East and Southeast Asia experiencing the fastest growth globally at 71%.
The report, drawing from over 800 global incidents handled by S-RM in 2025, warns that the rapid adoption of AI by businesses is creating new vulnerabilities that cybercriminals are exploiting. Attackers are leveraging AI to accelerate attacks, develop more personalized extortion tactics, and target AI-powered systems, the report states.
Experts note that ransomware incidents are no longer purely technical disruptions. Cybercriminals are now weaponizing stricter data privacy regulations and media exposure to intensify pressure on organizations during negotiations and crisis response, making the threat landscape more complex for businesses across the region.
