The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on Monday said it would investigate waste dumping activities in its regional offices in Davao City, according to BusinessWorld.

In a statement, the DENR said it asked Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte to explain the incidents within five days. It also filed a criminal complaint against unidentified individuals over the alleged illegal dumping.

The investigation comes amid heightened enforcement of environmental laws in the region, with the DENR signaling zero tolerance for waste violations by government offices.
