Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Jr. has ordered a structural assessment of the General Santos Fish Port Complex after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck off southern Mindanao on June 8 caused damage to the facility, BusinessWorld reported.

Three of the fishport's market halls were temporarily closed following the quake, which led to disruptions in operations at one of the country's key fishing hubs. The complex serves as a major landing and trading point for tuna and other fish species in the Philippines.

The assessment aims to determine the extent of damage and ensure the safety of workers and traders before full operations can resume. No timeline for the reopening of the closed sections has been announced.
