The Department of Transportation (DoTr) is seeking approximately P1 billion in funding for its active transport program in 2027, according to a BusinessWorld report. The proposed budget would go toward expanding bike lane networks and improving pedestrian road infrastructure, marking a significant increase from the current allocation.
For the current year, the DoTr received only P105 million for active transport, which officials said was barely enough to maintain existing facilities. The agency is now appealing to the legislative branch for a higher appropriation in the 2027 national budget to address growing demand for safer cycling and walking routes.
