The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Tuesday it has readied P5.55 billion worth of relief supplies and standby funds as a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon threaten parts of Luzon and the Visayas, as reported by BusinessWorld.
DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene B. Dumlao said the agency has placed its field offices on alert to ensure timely distribution of aid. The stockpile includes food packs, non-food items, and other emergency supplies prepositioned in strategic locations across the affected regions.
The LPA was estimated at 755 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes, while the southwest monsoon, locally known as hanging habagat, is expected to bring heavy rains to the western parts of Luzon and Visayas. DSWD continues to coordinate with local government units and other response agencies to prepare for possible weather-related emergencies.
