The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has intensified its monitoring of school supplies to prevent overpricing as the new school year approaches, according to a report by the Manila Bulletin.

DTI officers are conducting regular inspections in markets and stores nationwide to ensure that prices of notebooks, pens, bags, and other essential school items remain within suggested retail price ranges. Retailers found violating price tags or engaging in unjustified price hikes may face administrative penalties.

The agency reminded consumers to compare prices and report any overpricing incidents via its hotline. The move aims to protect families from financial strain during the back-to-school season, which typically drives higher demand for school supplies.
