The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has intensified its monitoring of school supplies to prevent overpricing as the school year draws near, according to a report by Manila Bulletin . The agency is checking prices of notebooks, pencils, bags, and other essential items to ensure compliance with suggested retail prices (SRPs).

DTI field officers are conducting inspections in public markets and stores nationwide. Retailers found violating price guidelines may face administrative penalties or charges under the Consumer Act. The agency encourages consumers to report overpricing via its hotline or online platforms.

The monitoring comes amid rising inflation and concerns over the cost of living. DTI assures the public that adequate supply of basic school items is available and that price increases, if any, remain within reasonable limits.
