The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) said the country has room to grow its organic agriculture sector because local farmlands are less degraded than those in more industrialized agricultural economies. BusinessWorldBusinessWorld reported that the chamber also urged the government to make industry data publicly available and to reopen discussions on the country’s organic standards.
According to the ECCP, the relatively lower degradation of Philippine farmlands presents a competitive advantage for organic production. However, the lack of accessible data and outdated standards could hinder investments and the sector’s overall expansion.
The chamber called on policymakers to prioritize data transparency and revisit the existing organic regulations, which it said are essential for building a stronger and more credible organic industry in the Philippines.
