EssilorLuxottica and Meta are partnering to develop a new line of “price-sensitive” AI-powered smart glasses, according to a report from Inside Retail Asia. The move aims to make augmented-reality eyewear more accessible to cost-conscious consumers.
The collaboration builds on the companies’ existing relationship, which produced the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The new initiative focuses on reducing manufacturing costs while maintaining core AI features such as voice commands, camera integration, and real-time information display.
EssilorLuxottica, formed in 2018 from the merger of lens maker Essilor and eyewear giant Luxottica, brings its optical expertise and retail network. Meta contributes its AI and software capabilities. The price-sensitive segment could help drive mass adoption of smart glasses beyond early adopters.
