According to a report by Inside Retail Asia, Grab and GoTo have announced they will reduce their driver commission rates in Indonesia to 8% starting July 1. The move comes amid increasing pressure from driver groups and regulators over high commission rates that have squeezed driver earnings.

The two companies, which dominate the ride-hailing and food delivery market in Indonesia, have faced growing backlash from drivers who argue that existing commission rates — often exceeding 20% — are unsustainable. The new 8% flat rate aims to address these concerns and improve driver welfare.

The commission cut is expected to have significant financial implications for both Grab and GoTo, potentially impacting their profitability. However, the companies may view it as a necessary step to maintain driver loyalty and comply with evolving regulatory expectations in Southeast Asia's largest economy.
