The Department of Energy announced that Apolaki Seven, Inc., a unit of German renewable energy developer ib vogt GmbH, has energized the first phase of the Tantangan Solar Power Project in South Cotabato. The project, as reported by BusinessWorld, is expected to supply electricity to approximately 68,000 households once fully operational.
Phase 1 of the solar farm is now connected to the grid, marking a significant step in expanding renewable energy capacity in Mindanao. The project is part of a larger development aimed at boosting the region's power supply and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The energization aligns with the government's push for cleaner energy sources and supports the country's goal of increasing renewable energy's share in the power mix. Mindanao, which has faced power supply challenges, stands to benefit from additional baseload capacity from solar power.
