Google will retire its Assistant by September, the tech giant confirmed, as it shifts focus to its Gemini AI platform. YugaTech reported the timeline, noting that the company had first signaled the move last year.
The shutdown marks the end of a voice assistant that has been embedded in Android phones, smart speakers, and other devices since 2016. Google has been gradually steering users toward Gemini, its newer AI assistant, which offers more advanced conversational capabilities.
Users will need to migrate to Gemini for voice commands and smart-home controls. Google has said it will provide guidance and tools to help with the transition before the September cutoff.
