The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) has advised local hog farmers to prepare for the potential spread of African swine fever (ASF) as the rainy season approaches. The warning, reported by Philstar Biz, underscores the heightened risk of disease transmission during wetter months.

BAI officials emphasized that biosecurity measures should be reinforced to prevent outbreaks, which can devastate livestock and disrupt the pork supply chain. The agency cited previous patterns where ASF cases surged following periods of heavy rainfall.

Hog raisers are urged to monitor their herds closely and report any unusual deaths immediately. The BAI also reminded farmers to maintain strict sanitation protocols and limit farm access to reduce the risk of introducing the virus.
