THE House prosecution panel has expanded its list of potential witnesses to 57 from 25 ahead of the impeachment trial of Vice-President (VP) Sara Duterte-Carpio, citing the need to preserve all evidence that may be presented before the Senate impeachment court, BusinessWorld reported.
The move comes as the prosecution panel prepares for the trial, which is expected to begin in the coming months. The expanded list includes individuals from various sectors, including government officials and private individuals, who may provide testimony related to the charges against the Vice-President.
The impeachment complaint against Duterte-Carpio was transmitted to the Senate earlier this year, with the House of Representatives voting to impeach her on grounds of betrayal of public trust and other offenses. The trial will be conducted by the Senate, with senators acting as judges.
