The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) is exploring new measures to combat the sale of counterfeit goods on online platforms, including enlisting brand owners to assist in monitoring efforts, BusinessWorld reported.

On the sidelines of a recent event, IPOPHL Director-General Teodoro C. Pascua said: "We need the brand owners to support that," referring to the agency's push to take down counterfeit listings more effectively. The agency is studying additional strategies beyond its current protocols.

The move comes as e-commerce grows in the Philippines, increasing the challenge of policing intellectual property rights violations. IPOPHL has been ramping up efforts to coordinate with online platforms and rights holders to curb the spread of fake goods.
