The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) said it wants to collaborate with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to increase student awareness of intellectual property (IP) rights, as reported by BusinessWorld.
“We’re looking forward to sitting down with DepEd and CHED to see how we could be able to increase the understanding [of IP rights],” an IPOPHL official said, according to the report. The agency aims to integrate IP education into the basic and higher education curricula, helping students recognize the value of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and other forms of intellectual property at an early stage.
The initiative comes amid growing calls for stronger IP protection in the Philippines, where counterfeiting and online piracy remain significant concerns. By partnering with educational institutions, IPOPHL hopes to build a generation that respects creativity and innovation, fostering a more competitive and law-abiding economy.
