A low pressure area (LPA) is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and may enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rains over some parts of the country this weekend, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday. PAGASA weather specialist Ms. Chenel Dominguez said the LPA has two possible scenarios: it may develop into a tropical depression or remain as an LPA while enhancing the monsoon.

The state weather bureau reported that the LPA was last spotted 1,510 kilometers east of Mindanao, moving westward. It is expected to enter PAR within 24 to 48 hours. The enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.

PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction offices to take necessary precautions against possible flooding and landslides. The public was also reminded to monitor updates as the weather situation may change. The report was published by BusinessWorld.
