President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has lifted the moratorium on applications for information technology ecozone (ITEZ) developments in Metro Manila, a move aimed at attracting more investments and reinforcing the region's status as a leading ICT hub, as reported by Philstar Biz.
The moratorium, previously in place, had limited new ITEZ registrations in the capital. By ending the freeze, the government seeks to capitalize on the growing demand for digital services and encourage more business process outsourcing (BPO) and tech firms to set up operations in the area.
The decision is expected to generate additional employment opportunities and boost economic activity in Metro Manila, which already hosts a significant concentration of IT and BPO companies. Industry stakeholders have welcomed the policy shift, citing improved competitiveness against other regional hubs.
