Customers of Maynilad Water Services, Inc. will see lower water bills in the third quarter, while Manila Water Co., Inc. customers will see no adjustment, following tariff changes driven by foreign exchange movements, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) said in a briefing reported by BusinessWorld .
MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty announced on Thursday that the peso's strength against the dollar has reduced foreign currency-denominated costs for the water concessionaires, allowing Maynilad to lower its rates. Manila Water, however, did not meet the threshold for an adjustment.
The tariff changes reflect a standard quarterly review mechanism that factors in foreign exchange fluctuations. Maynilad serves the west zone of Metro Manila, while Manila Water covers the east zone.
