Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) posted a 26% increase in core earnings to P26.5 billion for the first half of the year, according to a report by Philstar Biz. The strong performance was primarily attributed to higher contributions from its power generation arm.

The utility giant’s generation business benefited from increased plant availability and favorable market conditions, offsetting higher fuel costs. Meralco’s distribution segment also posted steady growth, supported by rising electricity demand from residential and commercial customers.

The company remains optimistic about the second half, citing sustained economic activity and ongoing infrastructure projects. Meralco is the largest power distributor in the Philippines, serving millions of customers across Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
