Meralco is upgrading its older metering system to reduce system losses and improve monitoring, according to a report by BusinessWorld. The power distributor said it continues to roll out its Elevated Metering Transformation (EMX) system, an upgraded version of its earlier metering platform.
The EMX system is expected to help the company better track electricity delivered across its distribution network, reducing technical and non-technical losses. The upgrade forms part of Meralco's broader efforts to modernize its grid and improve service reliability for customers in its franchise area.
System losses refer to electricity lost during transmission and distribution, including power consumed by equipment and pilferage. Lower losses can improve operational efficiency and potentially ease cost pressures. Meralco's rollout comes as the company continues to invest in grid upgrades and digital tools to enhance network monitoring.
