MTerra Solar, the country’s largest integrated solar and battery project, has begun supplying electricity to the Luzon grid after the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) cleared an initial 750 megawatts (MW) of capacity for testing and commissioning, the Department of Energy (DoE) said on Monday. Energy Undersecretary Mario C. Marasigan stated that NGCP’s approval allows electricity to flow from the facility.
The development was reported by BusinessWorld, which noted that the project's contribution to the grid marks a significant milestone in the country's renewable energy expansion. The 750 MW initial capacity is part of a larger planned output for the integrated facility.
Industry observers view the commencement of power supply as a key step toward improving grid stability and reducing reliance on fossil fuels in Luzon, the country's main economic region. Further capacity additions are expected as commissioning progresses.
