The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has expressed support for the removal of the system loss charge and the value-added tax applied to it on electricity bills, according to a report by BusinessWorld.
The chamber said the removal provides immediate relief to consumers, but stressed that it must be accompanied by structural changes to address the root causes of inefficiencies in the power sector. PCCI officials described the move as a positive step toward lowering electricity costs, which remain a major burden for businesses and households.
PCCI urged the government to pursue long-term reforms, including improvements in transmission and distribution infrastructure, greater competition in power generation, and policies that stabilize energy supply. The group said these measures are necessary to ensure that the benefit of the system loss removal is sustained and that the power sector becomes more efficient and affordable.
