The Department of Agriculture (DA) said it lifted the temporary ban on importing animals and animal products from Hungary after the apparent containment of a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak there. The decision, reported by BusinessWorld, follows the reinstatement of Hungary’s FMD-free status by the World Organisation of Animal Health’s Scientific Commission for Animal Diseases.
The ban was originally imposed to prevent the entry of FMD into the Philippines. The international body restored Hungary’s status after reviewing a containment plan submitted by the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, indicating the outbreak had been effectively controlled.
The lifting of the ban is expected to resume trade in livestock and animal products between the two countries, supporting local supply chains for meat and related goods. The DA has not yet specified any additional quarantine requirements for incoming shipments from Hungary.
