The scam was reported by News Radio KMAN, which noted that fraudsters often spoof official phone numbers to appear legitimate. Authorities emphasized that legitimate law enforcement agencies never demand payment over the phone for warrants or fines.
The police department advises anyone receiving similar calls to hang up immediately and verify directly with the agency. Residents are urged to report such incidents to local police and the Federal Trade Commission.
