Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Jr. said the Minimum Access Volume (MAV) Plus scheme for pork will only be adjusted by the Department of Agriculture (DA) if prices increase, according to a report by BusinessWorld.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines’ Food Security Forum, Mr. Laurel told reporters that the implementing rules and regulations for the MAV Plus scheme have yet to be finalized. The scheme allows for increased pork imports at lower tariffs to stabilize domestic supply and prices.
The DA is monitoring pork prices closely, and any expansion of MAV Plus will depend on sustained price increases. The government aims to balance the needs of consumers and local hog raisers while ensuring adequate pork supply in the market.
