According to the Cyber Incident Insights Report 2026 by cybersecurity firms S-RM and FGS Global, ransomware attacks across Asia-Pacific surged by 59% in 2025, with East and Southeast Asia recording the fastest growth globally at 71%. The report draws from over 800 incidents responded to by S-RM.
The report highlights that while businesses are rapidly adopting AI to improve efficiency, cybercriminals are also leveraging the technology to accelerate attacks, create more personalized extortion schemes, and exploit vulnerabilities introduced by AI-powered systems.
Experts note that ransomware incidents now involve more than technical disruption. Attackers are weaponizing stricter data privacy regulations and media coverage to intensify pressure on organizations during negotiations and crisis response.
