According to a report published by TechPinas, cybersecurity firms S-RM and FGS Global have released a Cyber Incident Insights Report 2026 showing that ransomware attacks in Asia-Pacific surged by 59% in 2025, with East and Southeast Asia recording the highest increase globally at 71%. The report, based on over 800 incidents responded to by S-RM, highlights the region’s growing exposure to sophisticated cyber threats.

The report warns that while businesses continue embracing AI to improve efficiency, cybercriminals are also leveraging AI to accelerate attacks, create more personalized extortion tactics, and exploit new vulnerabilities introduced by AI-powered systems. Additionally, attackers are now weaponizing stricter data privacy regulations and media exposure to intensify pressure on organizations during negotiations and crisis response.

Experts emphasize that ransomware incidents today go beyond technical disruption, as attackers combine digital, regulatory, and reputational threats to increase leverage. Businesses across Asia-Pacific are urged to strengthen their cybersecurity posture, especially as rapid digitalization and AI adoption expand the attack surface.
