Samsung and Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital have successfully demonstrated that the Galaxy Watch6 can predict vasovagal syncope (fainting) several minutes before it occurs, according to a report by TechPinas . The study represents what Samsung calls the world’s first successful use of a commercial smartwatch for early syncope prediction.
By combining heart rate variability data from the Galaxy Watch6’s PPG sensor with AI-powered analysis, researchers achieved 84.6 percent accuracy during clinical evaluations involving patients with suspected VVS symptoms. The technology could provide real-time warnings, potentially preventing injuries from sudden loss of consciousness in dangerous situations such as driving or climbing stairs.
The breakthrough reinforces Samsung’s push toward personalized preventive healthcare through wearable technology. While the study focused on the Galaxy Watch6, the implications extend to future smartwatch models, offering hope for millions at risk of fainting episodes worldwide.
