San Miguel Global Power Holdings Corp. (SMGP) has received approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to build a P1.7-billion dedicated transmission facility connecting the expansion of its Masinloc coal-fired power plant to the Luzon grid, according to a report by BusinessWorld.
The ERC decision, spanning 19 pages, authorizes Masinloc Power Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of SMGP, to proceed with the project. The facility is intended to ensure reliable transmission of power from the plant's expanded capacity to the Luzon grid.
The project supports San Miguel Corp.'s broader efforts to address the growing power demand in Luzon, the country's largest island. The ERC's approval marks a key regulatory milestone for the expansion, which is expected to enhance energy security in the region.
