The Senate is ready for the impeachment trial of Vice-President Sara Duterte-Carpio, Senate President Sherwin T. Gatchalian said on Tuesday, as preparations entered the final stage. Speaking to reporters during an inspection of security arrangements and the trial venue, Gatchalian stated, “We are very prepared.” The trial is set to commence on July 6, according to a report by BusinessWorld.

The inspection included a review of the Senate session hall and adjacent areas to ensure adequate facilities for the proceedings, which will involve the entire chamber acting as judges. Gatchalian emphasized that all logistical and security concerns have been addressed, with protocols in place for the expected high-profile trial.

The impeachment trial follows the transmission of articles of impeachment from the House of Representatives, accusing Duterte-Carpio of betrayal of public trust and other alleged violations. As the Senate prepares to take on its role as an impeachment court, the trial is expected to draw significant national attention.
