Japanese retail giant Seven & I Holdings and mobile payment provider PayPay are merging their respective loyalty programs, creating a combined database of over 100 million users, according to Inside Retail Asia.
The initiative aims to build a larger customer ecosystem by integrating payments, retail services and loyalty rewards. Seven & I operates 7-Eleven convenience stores and other retail chains, while PayPay is a leading mobile payments app in Japan. The merger will allow customers to earn and redeem points across both platforms, increasing engagement and data insights.
By combining data from such a large user base, Seven & I and PayPay hope to offer more personalized marketing and promotions. The collaboration underscores the growing trend of cross-industry partnerships in Japan’s retail and payments sector, as companies seek to create seamless omnichannel experiences.
