The Philippines will chair the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2026, a role that comes at a critical time for the region, according to a report by BusinessWorld.
The region faces intensifying major-power rivalry, maritime tensions, energy and food insecurity, digital disruption, climate risks, and uneven development among member states. The ASEAN community now includes 11 members following Timor-Leste’s accession.
The chairship will focus on turning people, peace, and prosperity into concrete results, aiming to address these challenges through collective action and cooperation.
