According to a report from Mint, top retailers in India are piloting data-rich QR codes on their private-label products. The initiative aims to provide customers with detailed product information while enabling retailers to collect valuable consumer insights.

The QR codes go beyond standard barcodes by linking to dynamic content such as origin details, nutritional facts, usage tips, and promotional offers. Retailers hope this will strengthen brand loyalty and differentiate their private-label offerings in a competitive market.

The pilot reflects the growing adoption of advanced barcode standards like GS1 Digital Link, which enables a single QR code to carry multiple types of data. As retailers move beyond simple price tags, the data-rich codes could become a key tool for personalized marketing and supply chain transparency.
