The Unified 911 system will deploy two satellite command centers in Mindanao this month, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). The centers are designed to be dialect-sensitive, ensuring emergency telecommunicators can communicate in local languages to reduce barriers during emergencies. DILG officials stressed that placing command centers closer to the people and using local dialects can save critical seconds in life-threatening situations.
The expansion marks a significant step in the national government’s effort to strengthen the emergency response network outside Metro Manila. The satellite command centers will complement the main 911 operations hub and are expected to improve response times in the region by decentralizing call handling and dispatch. The DILG said the initiative is part of a broader plan to make the Unified 911 system fully operational nationwide.
Local government units in Mindanao have been coordinating with the DILG to ensure the centers meet local needs. The project also involves training emergency telecommunicators in regional dialects and protocols. The DILG, as reported by BusinessWorld, emphasized that the command centers will operate 24/7 and be integrated with existing emergency services such as police, fire, and medical response units.
