A top leader of a faction in the now-defunct Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), with a P3 million reward on his head, was killed in a clash with soldiers and policemen in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte before dawn on Sunday, according to BusinessWorld.
Major Gen. Jose Vladimir R. Cagara, commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, confirmed the operation, stating that the suspect had been the subject of a long-standing manhunt. Firearms and explosives were recovered from the scene.
The BIFF, which splintered from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, has been responsible for numerous attacks in Mindanao. The death of this leader is seen as a significant blow to the remaining armed group's capabilities.
