The recently-signed Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) is expected to attract investment that supports transformation and increased participation in the Philippine digital economy, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said, as reported by BusinessWorld . Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque said the agreement will bring real benefits to everyday Filipinos.

The DEFA aims to facilitate digital trade, enhance regional connectivity, and promote cooperation among ASEAN member states. This is expected to create a more conducive environment for digital investments, particularly in e-commerce, fintech, and data-driven services.

The DTI said it will work on aligning national policies with the framework to maximize the benefits for Philippine businesses and consumers. The agreement is seen as a key step in positioning the Philippines as a competitive player in the regional digital economy.
