The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Tuesday clarified that the plan to impose additional fees on travelers is not final yet, following reports that the agency would begin collecting P480. Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado said in a statement reported by BusinessWorld that the reports were based on a proposal that has not yet received final approvals.
The proposed fee, reportedly amounting to P480 per traveler, had sparked public discussion and confusion. Viado emphasized that no decision has been made and that the BI will continue to study the proposal before any implementation.
The BI reassured the public that any changes to traveler fees would be subject to proper consultation and due process. Travelers are advised to rely only on official announcements from the agency for updates on this matter.
