In the first quarter of 2026, contestable customers in the competitive retail electricity market (CREM) saved an estimated P4.91 billion, according to a report by the Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC) published by BusinessWorld.

The savings were realized despite higher generation rates charged by distribution utilities (DUs) during the period, PEMC said in its retail market assessment report.

The CREM allows large power users—those with a monthly peak demand of at least 750 kW—to choose their electricity supplier, fostering competition and lower rates.
