EAST ZONE concession holder Manila Water Co., Inc. said it plans to tap Wawa and Laguna de Bay for additional raw water to mitigate declining water levels at Angat Dam as El Niño takes hold, according to a BusinessWorld report.

The company is improving components of its supplemental resources, which include the Wawa system and the Laguna Lake system, to ensure adequate water supply for its concession area in the east zone of Metro Manila. This comes as Angat Dam, the primary water source, faces reduced inflows due to the El Niño weather phenomenon.

The move aims to secure water availability for millions of customers and prevent service interruptions during the dry season. Manila Water continues to invest in alternative water sources to complement the Angat Dam supply and adapt to climate-related challenges.
