The families of desaparecidos or enforced disappearance victims on Monday filed a manifestation and motion before the Supreme Court seeking the disclosure of the whereabouts of retired Army general Jovito S. Palparan amid reports that he had been transferred to the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio City, as reported by BusinessWorld.
The motion, filed on behalf of the families of abducted University of the Philippines students, calls on the Supreme Court to compel authorities to provide information on Palparan’s current location. The retired general was previously convicted for the kidnapping of UP students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeño in 2006, a case that drew national attention to enforced disappearances during the Arroyo administration.
Reports surfaced that Palparan had been moved from his detention facility to the Philippine Military Academy, raising concerns among the families about transparency and possible preferential treatment. The Supreme Court has yet to respond to the motion, which seeks assurance that the families’ right to truth and justice is upheld.
